TermDefinition
Executive branch This branch is responsible for enforcing the laws of the land. The following are executive branch organizations and agencies: Executive Office of the President (White House)
Chief of state Every nation has a chief of state, a person who serves as the symbolic leader of the country and represents the nation.
Chief executive The chief executive officer (CEO) is the highest-ranking person in a company.
Chief administrator A chief administrative officer (CAO) is an executive who manages the daily administrative functions of an organization
chief diplomat Through this role, they are responsible for carrying out negotiations with foreign leaders and their governments.
Commander in chief A commander-in-chief or supreme commander is the person who exercises supreme command and control over an armed force or a military branch.
Ambassadors An accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country.
Chief of party In this unofficial positon, the president acts as the leader of their political party and supports other governmental candidates who support the same policies.
Chief citizen Acting as Chief Citizen, the president represents all citizens and sets an example for civic behavior in times of peace and crisis.
Chief legislator Although the President does not have the power to pass laws, he can suggest laws to Congress.
22nd amendment The Twenty-second Amendment (Amendment XXII) to the United States Constitution limits the number of times a person can be elected to the office of President of the United States to two terms.
Veto powers The veto allows the President to “check” the legislature by reviewing acts passed by Congress and blocking measures he finds unconstitutional, unjust, or unwise.
Appointment powers The Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution empowers the President of the United States to nominate and, with the advice and consent (confirmation) of the United States Senate, appoint public officials.
Primary First or highest in rank or importance; chief; principal.
Cabinet The Cabinet is a group of the Presidents top advisors.
FCC The Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications through cable, radio, television, satellite and wire.
SEC The SEC's mission is: to protect investors. to maintain fair, orderly and efficient markets and. to facilitate capital formation.
EPA The Environmental Protection Agency is an independent agency of the United States government tasked with environmental protection matters.
OSHA OSHA standards are rules that describe the methods that employers must use to protect their employees from hazards.
Presidential succession In case of the removal of the President from office or of his death or resignation, the Vice President shall become President.
Electoral college The Electoral College is how we refer to the process by which the United States elects the President, even though that term does not appear in the U.S. Constitution.
