goodness | God is the final standard of good, and all that God is and does is worthy of approval |
omniscience/all-knowing | God fully knows Himself and His creation, as well as all things actual and possible in one simple and eternal act |
omnipresence/all-present | Just as God is unlimited or infinite with respect to time, so God is unlimited with respect to SPACE. God does not have size or spatial dimensions and is present at every point of space with His whole being, yet God acts differently in different places |
omnipotence/all-powerful | God is all-powerful, and, therefore, able to do His holy will |
incomprehensibility | Because God is infinite (unlimited) and we are finite (limited), we can never fully understand God. In this sense, He is said to be "unable to be fully understood". |
Sovereignty/providence | This attribute is the exercise of His freedom, will, choice, and control over all of His creation. He is continually involved with His creation that he 1) keeps them existing 2) cooperates with them, and 3) directs them to fulfill His purposes |
Perfection/holiness/completeness | this attribute has a two-fold meaning: 1) He completely possesses all excellent qualities and lacks no part of any qualities that would be desirable for Him (being "complete"), 2) He is separated from sin and is holy in all His ways. |
Lordship/supremacy | God's supremacy over the works of His hands is demonstrated in His perfect rule over His creatures and children |
Unity/simplicity | God is not divided into parts, yet we see different attributes of God emphasized at different times |
Independence/aseity/self-existence/self-sufficiency | God does not need us or the rest of creation for anything,, yet we and the rest of creation can glorify Him and bring Him joy |
eternality/infinitude | God has no beginning, end, or succession of moments in His own being, and He sees all time equally vividly, yet God sees events within time and acts within time |
immutability/unchangeableness | God is unchanging in His being, perfections, purposes, and promises, yet God does act and feel emotions, a d He acts and feels differently in response to different situations |
timelessness | attribute displayed in two ways: 1) He is "without time" in that God stands outside of earth-bound time and is not affected by the forward motion of earthly time, 2) God's being and character are never-changing and non-diminishable thoruhgout all time |
transcendence | God is above and distinct from all He has made - He exceeds and exists above all |
immanence | God is present in all of creation, while remaining distinct from it. In other words, there is no place where God is not |
