QuestionAnswer
Categorical example Characteristics such as the different coat colors of one hundred cats born.
Quantitative example Numbers such as the number of kittens born in each litter per one hundred cats.
Categorical... what type of graph? Bar graphs (percentages)
Quantitative... what type of graph? Histograms (using numbers)
Mean and standard deviation... resistance to outliers? Use for what type of graph? Nonresistant to outliers, and used for normal distributions/uniform.
Median and IQR... resistance to outliers? Use for what type of graph? Resistant to outliers, and used for skewed graphs.
5 Number summary includes which of the following Min, Q1, Median, Q3, Max
What is IQR? How do you find it? IQR measures the spread of data. IQR = Q3-Q1
What do you need to make a box-plot? Should it be modified? What does that mean? A five number summary, it should be modified so that outliers do not skew data. In order to create a modified graph, mark outliers as a star, and then record the new min/max.
What is the total area under a density curve? One
The _____ of a density curve is the point that divides the area under the curve in half. Median
The _____ of a density curve is the point where a curve would balance if made of solid material. Mean
If a density curve is skewed to the right, the _____ will be further to the right than the _____. mean, median
x bar vs M x bar is for sampling, M is for the entire population.
S vs o S is for sampling, o is for the entire population
How to find the inflection point on a normal curve.... Inflection points are one standard deviation of either side of the mean.
What are the three percentages found on a normal curve one further standard deviation apart each time? What rule is this called? 68, 95, 99.7 (1, 2, 3 standard deviations away from the mean) The empirical rule
How to find the length of a given percentage on a normal distribution 2nd vars invnorm(area, mean, standard deviation, tail)
How to find the percentage of a given length on a normal distribution 2nd vars normcdf(lower, upper, mean, standard deviation)
Z score formula: x-mean divided by the standard deviation
What formula do you use for the following question: "What percent of humans have a pregnancy that lasts longer than 280 days? 2nd vars normcdf(280, 1e99, mean, standard deviation)
Discrete variable: countable variables, you will know the maximum number
Continuous variable: unlimited number of variables, where you do not not the min or max.
What formula do you use for the following question: "How long would a pregnancy be to be the shortest 25% of pregnancies?" 2nd vars invnorm(0.25, mean, standard deviation, right)
Rules for a stem-plot: - Must have a key - First digit in the middle/left, second, lesser digit on the other side.
Formula to find outliers using IQR: Q3 + 1.5 (IQR) Q1 - 1.5 (IQR)
What does SOCS stand for? What must you remember? shape, outliers, center, spread. remember to compare instead of the list. Use compare words and "-ly" words.
What is a response variable?
What is an explanatory variable?
What does DUFS stand for?
r = ? What numbers must it be between? Does it have units? Is it resistant to outliers?
r² = ?
Does correlation equal causation?
What is extrapolation?
What is interpolation?
What must a residual graph look like to be credible?
What is the LSRL?
Correlation only applies to what type of relationship?
What does the x bar y bar stand for?

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
