Geometry* Terms
Altitudes, circumcenter, perp. bisectors, etc
Term | Definition |
---|---|
altitiude | thru the vertex, perp. to the base it passes through |
concurrent | when many lines meet at one point |
perp. bisector | bisects the base it goes thru & right angle |
angle bisector | bisects the angle it goes through |
perp. bisector theorum | if a point is on the perp. bisector of a segment, then it is at = distance from the endpoints of the segment |
angle bisector theorum | if a point is on the bisector of an angle, then it is at an = distance from the 2 sides of an angle |
circumcenter | made by perp. bisectors; equidistant to all 3 verticies |
incenter | made by angle bisectors; inscribed circle; equidistant to all 3 sides; always INSIDE a triangle |
median | thru the vertex, base bisector (NOT ALWAYS PERP.); Not always congruent |
centroid | made by medians, midpoint to centriod is 1/3 of the length of the median; divides all 3 medians into a 2:1 ration |
orthocenter | made by altitudes |
triangle inequality theorum | the 2 smallest sides added > third side |
diagonal | line from 1 verticie to another (triangles have none) |
both sets of opposite sides parallel | parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus |
both sets of opp sides congruent | parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus |
both sets of opp angles conguent | parallelogram, rectangle, square, rhombus |
all sides equal | rhombus, square |
all angles equal | rectangle, square |
congruent diags | rectangle, square, iso. trap |
perpendicular diags | rhombus, square, kite |
diags bisect eachother | parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, square, iso. trap |
