Bone | Hard connective tissue that supports & protects organs |
Cartilage | Firm, flexible tissues that are not as hard as bone. Think noses & ears. |
Ligaments | Tissue that connects bone to bone |
Tendons | Tissue that connects bone to muscle |
Joints | Where bones meet and allows for movement |
Long | found in extremities. Ex: Femur, tibia |
Short | found in joints, hands, & feet. Shaped like cubes/marshmallows! |
Flat | found in skull sternum, & scapula |
Sesamoid | Small tendon embedded bone found near joints, like the patella (knee cap). |
Irregular | vertebrae & pelvis |
JOINTS | An articulation between bones or between bones and cartilage and is held in place by ligaments which may or may not allow motion between them. |
