Bone Review

Orthopedist Doctor that deals with skeletal corrections, injuries, and disorders.
Basic Functions: Structure Protection Minerals reserve Blood cell production
Protection – ex: rib cage, skull
Minerals reserve calcium and phosphorous
Blood cell production bone marrow
Bone Hard connective tissue that supports & protects organs
Cartilage Firm, flexible tissues that are not as hard as bone. Think noses & ears.
Ligaments Tissue that connects bone to bone
Tendons Tissue that connects bone to muscle
Joints Where bones meet and allows for movement
Long found in extremities. Ex: Femur, tibia
Short found in joints, hands, & feet. Shaped like cubes/marshmallows!
Flat found in skull sternum, & scapula
Sesamoid Small tendon embedded bone found near joints, like the patella (knee cap).
Irregular vertebrae & pelvis
JOINTS An articulation between bones or between bones and cartilage and is held in place by ligaments which may or may not allow motion between them.
