A1 Module 8
Exponential Functions
Term | Definition |
---|---|
asymptote | A line that a curve approaches as it heads towards infinity. |
Exponential function | y=ab^x, where a cannot equal 0, and b is greater than zero but not equal to 1 |
growth rate | r, the percentage at which a function grows |
decay rate | r, the percentage at which a function decays |
growth factor | 1 + r |
decay factor | 1 - r |
exponential growth function | y= a(1 + r)^x |
Initial value | a, in an exponential function |
time | x, in an exponential function |
exponential decay function | y = a(1 - r)^x |
y - intercept | Where the graph touches the y axis . The y value when x=0 |
x - intercept | Where the graph touches the x-axis. The x value when y=0 |
domain | the set of x values that are defined for the function |
range | the set of y values that are defined for the function |
end behaviors | how the y's behave as the x's increase or decrease |
