Agenda Setting | Process of forming the list of issues to be addressed by government. |
Equal Time Rule | the rule that requires broadcast stations to sell air time equally to all candidates in a political campaign if they choose to sell it to any. |
Framing | Process by which a news organization defines a political issue & consequently affects opinion about the results. |
Muckraking | A form of journalism,, devoted to exposing misconduct by government, business, & individual politicians. |
Narrowcasting | Targeting media programming at specific population w/in society. |
Press Briefing | A relatively restricted session between a press secretary or aide & the press. |
Press Release | A document offering an official comment or position. |
Prior Restraint | Constitutional doctrine that prevents the government from prohibiting speech or publication before the fact; generally held to be in violation of the 1st Amendment. |
Right of Rebuttal | The rule that requires broadcast stations to give individuals the right to have the opportunity to respond to personal attacks made on a radio or TV broadcast. |
Yellow Journalism | A form of publishing in vogue in the late 19th century that featured pictures, comics, color & sensationalized news coverage. |
