Surface roughness | caused by improper mixing or application (spraying) |
Surface waviness | caused from improper sanding or blocking of plastic filler or primer |
Bleeding | the dye of an old finish/color comes to the surface after a new finish has been sprayed, usually reds |
Blistering | usually caused by corrosion under the surface |
Blushing | a problem that makes the finish turn milky |
Dirt in finish | foreign particles dried in the paint film |
Fisheyes | separation of the wet film being sprayed |
Mottling | streaking or blotching of the color, usually with metallic finishes, caused by heavier film thickness or excessive wetting |
Orange peel | paint roughness that resembles the skin of an orange |
Peeling | caused by improper surface sanding or scuffing |
Pin holes | air bubbles that rose to the surface of body plastic filler |
Plastic bleed | through |
Corrosion under finish | will cause the finish to blister or peel |
Runs | when gravity produces a mass slippage of an overwet, thick film |
Sag | a partial slipping down of the surface film created by film that is too wet and heavy |
Undercoat show through | the color of the undercoat is seen through the topcoat |
Water spotting | dulling of gloss in spots do to spots of water drying on a finish that did not thoroughly dry |
Wet spots | a finish problem seen as off colored and or slow drying spots of various sizes |
