communism | an economic system in which the state owns the land in means for production |
free enterprise | an economic system characterized by private or corporate ownership by capital goods; investments that are determined by private decisions rather than by state control, and determined in a free market |
Cold War | The struggle of power between the United States and the soviet Union form the end of WWII through the 1980's |
Dwight Eisenhower | commonly know as Ike, he was the 34th president of the U.S. (Republican) He was a 5 star army general before becoming president |
Lyndon B Johnson | vice president to JFK, became president after the JFK assassination. LBJ was from Texas and the 36th president of the U.S |
civil rights | the rights due to all the citizens under the constitution |
primary election | an election in which voters choose candidates for the general election |

hybrid | something that is made from two types of components |
NAFTA | The North American Free Trade Agreement- it removed most of the trade barriers between the U.S, Mexico, and Canada |
infrastructure | a system of public works such as roads and bridges |
diversity | to become more varied |
retail | the scale of goods directly to the public |
research and development | an activity that leads to the creating of new products and procedures |
Michael Dell | Texas leader in science and technology, Dell began selling computers when he was a student at UT at Austin in the 1980's and now is one of the largest computer companies in the world |
