Advantages of designer dogs unique looks, fewer congenital diseases, crosses now but could evolve in tomorrow’s new breeds.
Disadvantages of designer dogs more difficult to predict temperament and size, still has a strong chance for congenital diseases since many of these health issues affect multiple breeds, tend to be expensive.
Notice that many have POODLE in common in the mix! Why do you think that is?? Poodles do very minimally shed and are of high intelligence!
Bitch This the correct term for a female dog.
Dam This is the designation given to the mother of a litter.
Stud The stud is the male dog that performs the breeding on the bitch.
Sire This is the designation given to the father of the litter.
Litter This term applies to a group of puppies that are born from the same pregnancy.
Heat cycle This is the active period of a bitch's reproductive cycle. It's characterized by a bloody discharge, the release of eggs for fertilization and a period of active willingness to breed (happens twice a year)
Gestation The period of pregnancy. Typically 63 days.
Whelping The act of giving birth, also simply known as “labor.”
Ear Cropping Cutting/Shaping the ear to make it stand up erect
Tail Docking Intentional removal of a portion of the tail
