Question | Answer |
---|---|
What are the 3 insensible loses? | -Respiration. - Saliva production. - Sweating. |
What are the sensible loses? | - Urination (24-48ml/kg/day) - Defecation (10-20ml/kg/day) |
What fluids manage haemorrhage and evaporation during surgery? | Crystalloid fluids. |
What fluids are used to manage third space loss during surgery? | - Hypertonic pre surgery. - Isotonic during surgery. |
What are causes of mixed water depletion? | Vomiting, diarrhoea, draining wounds, third space fluid loss. |
What organ is affected by extracellular fluid loss (dehydration)? | Kidneys, function decreases. |
Which hormone is released and where is it released from? | ADH, posterior pituitary gland. |
What hormone is released from the kidneys, and what does that stimulate? | Renin, which stimulates release of angiotensin, which stimulates further release of aldosterone from adrenal gland. |
What does aldosterone do? | Increases water reabsorption in kidneys within distal tubules. |
The pH of blood is dependant on what concentrations? | Hydrogen Ions. |
What controls hydrogen ion concentration? | Bicarbonate ions and carbon dioxide levels. |
What organ excretes excess hydrogen? | Kidneys. |
What tests can be run to assess fluid balance? | TS/TP and PCV. |
What are the normal values of TS/TP? | Dogs - 50-70g/l Cats - 60-60g/l |
