Glossary Statistics

Statistics The science concerned with developing and studying methods for collecting, analyzing, interpreting and presenting empirical data.
Math Study An area of knowledge that includes the topics of numbers, formulas and related structures, shapes and the spaces in which they are contained, and quantities and their changes.
Graphic A visual display of a data set, making it easier to understand and interpret the data.
Average A number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data.
Bar graph Visual and graphic representation of quantitative discrete data in the form of bars.
Histogram Visual and graphic representation of quantitative continuous data in the form of bars.
Mode Is the most repeated data in a set of them.
Data They are a set of values and observations that are collected as a source of information. You can represent them in many ways.
Range Is the difference between values in a data set. To find it you have to subtract the greatest value (data) from the lowest (data).
Frequency table Is a way to represent data. It show a set of values and assigns a repetition to each of them.
Qualitative variable Is a variable that isn't numerical and describes data that fits into categories.
Quantitative variable The numbers that you record represent real amounts that can be added, subtracted, divided, etc...
