what are the fundamental objectives? 1. service level = EFFECTIVENESS 2. minimum costs = EFFICIENCY (low inventory levels, avoid waiting queues, minimise idle time)
what are the fundamental activities? 1. job allocation 2. sequencing 3. detailed scheduling 4. despatch
what are job allocation techniques = trial & error (ganntt chart) = optimiser methods (Hungarian methods) = heuristic solutions (indices)
what are sequencing techniques? line production of big lots = one machine (KAUFFMAN) = 2 or more machines (JACKSON & JOHNSON)
what are 3 types of configuration? 1. Project (different, specific, unique) 2. Continuous (chain, standardised product, EFFICIENT NOT FLEXIBLE) 3. Lot (same facilities, diff products) = PRODUCTION LINE - big lot, same product, skip operations = JOB SHOP - variety, small lot, flexible
