what is a work element? task that can't be split without interference
what is a workstation? where operation is performed
what is an operation? set of work elements set to a workstation
what is line balancing? assignment of work elements to workstations
what is cycle time? maximum time product can stay in each workstation
what is a balancing delay? total idle time in production line
what should be considered when calculating adequate cycle time? maximum annual production AND present market demand
what is task precedence? activities that should be carried out before task can start
what are the rules for task selection? 1. rule for maximum successive task - select tasks with longer execution & leaving the rest 2. helge son & birnie methodology - each task considered, execution task added to all subsequent tasks, one with greatest result is selected
