What is found in the larynx? Cartilage, muscles, fibrous tissues & ciliated mucous membranes.
What connects the upper and lower airways? Larynx

What type of cartilage is the trachea made from? Hyaline
On what plane are the rings of the trachea incomplete? Dorsally
What lines the trachea? Ciliated mucous epithelium
What does the bronchus divide into? Bronchioles
Where are the alveolar ducts found? At the terminal bronchi at the end of the bronchial tree
How many alveoli are found in each lung? Millions
What does the term dead space refer to? Anything in the lungs that is not involved in gaseous exchange
What do alveolar ducts end in? Alveolar sacs
How many lobes does each long have? Left lung; 2 Right lung; 3
What is lined with pleural membrane? Pleural cavity
What are the 4 pleuras? Pulmonary, costal, mediastinal, diaphragmatic
Which pleura lines the inner side of the ribs? Costal
Which pleura lines the visceral lungs? Pulmonary
Which pleura lines the cranial part of the diaphragm? Diaphragmatic
Which intercostal muscles are largely passive? Internal intercostal muscles
Which parts of the brain are responsible for respiration? Pons & medulla
What is the response called that limits over-inflation during inspiration? Hering-Bruer reflex
Which nerve supplies the diaphragm? Phrenic nerve
What is cellular respiration? Internal / tissue respiration
What is mechanical respiration? External respiration by the lungs
