APM PMQ Competence seven terminology
Term | Definition |

Assurance | The process of providing confidence to stakeholders that projects, programmes and portfolios will achieve their objectives for beneficial change. |
Compliance | Abiding by a set of rules, whether agreed or imposed. |
Control | Tracking performance against agreed plans and taking the corrective action required to meet defined objectives. |
Governance | The framework of authority and accountability that defines and controls the outputs, outcomes and benefits from projects. The mechanism whereby the investing organisation exerts financial and technical control over the work and the realisation of value. |
Risk management | A process that allows individual risk events and overall risk to be understood and managed proactively, optimising success by minimising threats and maximising opportunities. |
