LE joint mobs

Hip, knee, ankle

QuestionAnswer
Hip joint resting position Hip flexion 30 degrees, abduction 30 degrees, and slight external rotation
Hip distraction is indicated for what? testing, initial treatment, pain control, general mobility
Hip distraction precaution In the presence of knee dysfunction, use alternate positioning instead of resting hip position.
Alternate position and technique for hip caudal glide Pt supine with hip and knee flexed and foot resting on table. Wrap hands around distal thigh/femur around epicondyles. Do not compress patella. Force from hands is applied
Hip posterior glide is indicated for what? To increase flexion; to increase internal rotation
Hip anterior glide is indicated for what? To increase extension; to increase external rotation
Tibiofemoral joint resting position 25 degrees knee flexion
Tibiofemoral joint distraction is indicated for what? testing, initial treatment, pain control, general mobility
Tibiofemoral posterior glide is indicated for what Testing; to increase flexion
Tibiofemoral anterior glide is indicated for what? To increase extension
Patellofemoral joint distal glide is indicated for what? for normal knee flexion
Patellofemoral joint proximal glide is indicated for what? For normal knee extension
Patellofemoral joint medial glide is indicated for what? To increase patellar mobility
Patellofemoral joint lateral glide is indicated for what? To increase patellar mobility
Proximal tibiofibular joint anterior (ventral) glide is indicated for what To increase movement of the fibular head; to reposition a posteriorly subluxed head
Distal tibiofibular joint anterior (ventral) or posterior (dorsal) glide is indicated for what? To increase mobility of the mortise when it was restricting ankle dorsiflexion
Resting position of the talocrural joint 10 degrees plantarflexion
Talocrural distraction is indicated for what testing, initial treatment, pain control, general mobility
Talocrural dorsal (posterior glide) is indicated for what? To increase dorsiflexion
Talocrural ventral (anterior) glide is indicated for what? To increase plantarflexion
Subtalar joint (talocalcaneal) resting position Midway between inversion and eversion
Subtalar distraction is indicated for what? testing, initial treatment, pain control, general mobility for inversion/eversion
Subtalar medial glide is indicated for what? To increase eversion
Subtalar lateral glide is indicated for what? To increase inversion
Intertarsal and tarsometatarsal plantar glides are indicated for what? To increase plantar flexion accessory motion (necessary for supination)
Intertarsal and tarsometatarsal dorsal glide is indicated for what? To increase dorsal gliding accessory motion (necessary for pronation)
