TermDefinition
Peninsula land surrounded by water on three sides
Strait a narrow body of water that connects two large bodies of water
Panhandle a strip of land that extends from a larger section of land
Sea Level the height of the ocean's surface
Limestone a rock that forms from a mineral in seawater or from shells and bones of certain sea animals
Sinkhole a hole in the ground that results when the land above an underground cave falls down into it
Wetland an area where water lies on or near the surface of the ground, as in a swamp or marsh
Barrier Island an island along the coast that helps protect the mainland from pounding waves
Plain A large area of fairly low, level land
Hammock A group of trees growing on a small, raised mound of land
Pollution Substances produced by people and industry that can hurt the environment
Coral Reef An underwater structure formed from the shells of tiny sea animals
Canopy Road A road that passes beneath an archway of tall, moss-draped trees.
Weather The condition of the air of a certain place and time.
Climate The pattern of weather an area has over a long period of time.
Hurricane A strong, swirling storm with rain and winds blowing of more than 74 miles per hour.
Tornado A storm with very fast winds that form a funnel-shaped cloud
Hail Precipitation that has frozen into balls of ice.
Population Density A measure of how many people, on average, live on each square mile of land in a certain area.
Port A place where people or goods can enter or leave a country
Urban Having to do with cities
Suburb Towns near large cities where many people live
Rural Having to do with the country
Culture A way of life
Diversity A variety of people, cultures, or choices.
