Which hormone stimulates the production of testosterone? Interstitial cell stimulating hormone (ICSH)
What type of hormones does the Pituitary gland produce? Stimulating
What are the sections of the Pituitary gland called? Anterior and posterior
What hormone stimulates gamete production? Follicle stimulating hormone
What does prolactin do? Stimulates production of mammary glands and lactation
Which hormone stimulates oestrogen production? Luteinising hormone
What is the growth hormone called? Somatotrophin
Which gland produces melatonin? The pineal gland
What are the names for T3 and T4? T3 - triiodothyronine R4 - thyroxine
What other hormone does the thyroid gland produce? Calcitonin
What are some of the functions of the thyroid gland? Regulation of oxygen uptake in cells & regulation of the motabollism.
How many parathyroid glands are there? 4
What does the parathyroid hormone do? Increases blood calcium levels
What type of cells produce glucagon in the pancreas? Alpha cells
Delta cells produce which pancreas hormone? Somatostatin
Insulin is produced by which cells in the pancreas? Beta cells
What is glycogenolysis? Increase of BG levels by conversion of stored glycogen in the liver
What is Glycogenesis? Storage of excess glycogen in the liver
Which hormone limits the fluctuations of BG? Somatostatin
Where are gastrointestinal hormones produced and by what type of cells? Pancreas, exocrine cells
What are the 3 gastrointestinal hormones? Gastrin, cholecystokinin & secretin
