CSU Research - Trustworthiness in Qualitative Research

Triangulation | "Cross-checking" information and conclusions through the use of multiple procedures or sources. When the different procedures or sources are in agreement you have "corroboration." |
Reflexivity | Self-awareness and "critical self-reflection" by the researcher on his or her potential biases and predispositions |
Member Checking | The participants either affirm that the summaries reflect their views, feelings, and experiences, or that they do not reflect these experiences. Member = Participant |
Peer Debriefing | Having a content and/or methods expert review your analysis. This expert may detect whether or not a researcher has over or under-emphasized a point, missed an alternate inference that is supported by teh data, etc. Peer = Peer of Researcher = Expert |
Audit Trail | A record/journal of the researchers actions, decisions, thoughts, responses etc. |
