CSU Research - Trustworthiness in Qualitative Research

QuestionAnswer
Triangulation "Cross-checking" information and conclusions through the use of multiple procedures or sources. When the different procedures or sources are in agreement you have "corroboration."
Reflexivity Self-awareness and "critical self-reflection" by the researcher on his or her potential biases and predispositions
Member Checking The participants either affirm that the summaries reflect their views, feelings, and experiences, or that they do not reflect these experiences. Member = Participant
Peer Debriefing Having a content and/or methods expert review your analysis. This expert may detect whether or not a researcher has over or under-emphasized a point, missed an alternate inference that is supported by teh data, etc. Peer = Peer of Researcher = Expert
Audit Trail A record/journal of the researchers actions, decisions, thoughts, responses etc.
