Analysis Steps

How to analyze a text?

QuestionAnswer
What is the first step when your teacher says: read the text and answer questions? You highlight words you find important to understand the text and you can circle the words you do not know
What is the second step when you read a text? You search the meaning of the words you do not know and you annotate on the side of the text or create flash cards
What is the third step when you read text? You number each paragraph
What is the fourth step when you read a text? You find what is the most important information for each paragraph and you rephrase it in your own words, short version
What is the fifth step when you read a text? You summarize the text : you explain what is the text about
What is the 6th step when you read a text? You jolt your thoughts on the text: I wonder if, I do not understand why? I imagine this will happen?
What is the 7th step when you read text? You identify the main characters. It here one or more? cite the text
What is the 8th step when you read a text? You identify the main idea and you provide evidence from the text
What is main idea? It is what the story is about
How to find the main idea? You find the topic in each paragraph , and then what repeats is the what the story is about
What is a theme? It is the message, lesson or moral of a story. In the landlady, it about not judging a book by its cover
