"coyote gets stuck" | coyote is the one being tricked--annoyed that pitch wasn't answering and he kept getting stuck as he was trying to punch, kick, and bite him; pitch gets turned into pitch by aunt |
"raven steals the light" | a raven desires light trapped in boxes of boxes to himself because he can't hunt in the dark; he morphs into a boy; gets the light using toddler magic and accidentally drops it being chased by an eagle, therefore creating the sun, moon, and stars |
"hunting song" | expressing what a man wants--a manifestation--repeated desire |
"song of the sky loom" | speaker is desiring mother earth and father sky to give them something in return for their offerings, love, and appreciation |
"the world on the turtle's back" | chief's wife falls from skyland into the waters of the water animals; many try and bring up land for her to stand, and muskrat succeeds; places paw on turtles back, springing earth to life |
