QuestionAnswer
Absolute Value The absolute value of a number a is its distance from 0 on a number line. The absolute value of a number a is written as |a|. Example: |3|=3 |-27|=27
Opposites Two numbers that have the same absolute value but different signs. Example:-4 and 4 are opposites.
Integer The numbers…, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3… consisting of the negative integers, zero, and the positive integers. Example: -9 and 25 are integers -9.25 and 25.78 are not integers
Additive Inverse The additive inverse of a number a is its opposite -a. The sum of a number and its additive inverse is 0. Example: 5 is -5 so 5 + (-5) =0
Natural Numbers are all positive integers from 1 to Infinity. They do not include 0, negative numbers, fractions or decimals. Example: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,........
Rational Numbers A number that can be written as the quotient of two integers. Example: -½ = -1/2
Real Numbers The sets of all rational numbers that irrational numbers Example:-5, 0, 2/3
Whole Numbers Any positive number that does not include a fractional or decimal part
Repeating Decimals A decimal fraction in which a figure or group of figures is repeated in definitly
Teerminating decimals A terminating decimal is usually defined as a decimal number that contains a finite number of digits after the decimal point
