Term | Definition |

Absolute Value | a number is its distance from 0 on a number line. The absolute value of a number a is written as (a) Example: (3)=(3) (-5)=5 (0)=0 |
Opposites | Two numbers that have the same absolute value but different signs. Example:-4 and 4 are opposites |
Integer | The numbers, -3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3 consisting of the negative integers, zero, and the positive integers. Example:-9 and 23 are integers. |
Additive Inverse | The additive inverse of a number a is its opposite, -a. The sum of a number and its additive inverse is 0. |
Natural Numbers | Whole numbers excluding zero. |
Rational Numbers | A number that can be repeated as the quotient. |
Real Numbers | The set of all rational and irrational numbers |
Whole Numbers | Any positive number that does not include a fractional or decimal part. |
Repeating Decimals | A decimal fraction in which a figure or group of figure repeated indefinitely. |
Terminating Decimalsis | A decimal number that contains a finite number of digits after the decimal point. |
