What are the Articles of Confederation? The Articles of Confederation is our first Constitution or our first government in the U.S.
Who wrote the Articles of Confederation? John Dickinson and the Second Continental Congress wrote the Articles of Confederation.
When were the Articles of Confederation ratified? The Articles of Confederation were ratified on March 1, 1781.
Name three strengths of the Articles of Confederation: 1.Conduct foreign affairs. 2. Maintain the armed forces. 3. Create a postal system. 4. Borrow money/issue currency 5. Declare war/make peace
Name three weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation: 1. Could not impose taxes on states. 2. Could not regulate trade. 3. Could not enforce state laws. 4. Could not make an army or navy
What compromises were reached? 1. The Great Compromise 2.The ⅗ Compromise.
What is the Great Compromise? Congress has two forms of representation. Senate: we have an equal number of representatives(2). House of Representatives: there’s a number of representatives that is proportional to each state's population.
What is the 3/5 Compromise? Slave states could count ⅗ of slaves toward taxation and votes for representation in the state.
How did the colonists fix the problems with the Articles of Confederation? They wrote the U.S. Constitution
