Ch 2, Fractions and Decimals

numerator | the top number in a fraction |
denominator | the bottom number in a fraction |
common denominator | using the least common multiple (LCM) for two denominators to change them so they share the same denominator |
reciprocal | when the numerator and the denominator of a fraction are switched / flipped Ex: 4/5 = 5/4 |
perimeter | the measurement of the outside of a shape, found by adding all sides together |
area | the measurement of the inside of a shape, found by multiplying the length of the shape by the width |
whole number | a number that is not a decimal or fraction Ex: 524,783 |
decimal | a whole number and the fractional part separated by a decimal point Ex: 524.783 |
least common multiple (LCM) | the lowest multiple two numbers have in common |
multiples | A list of whole numbers you get when you multiply a number out (remember multiples means multiply) Ex: 3 - 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30 etc. |
