Term | Definition |
---|---|
Exponential Function | a function whose value is a constant raised to the power of the argument, with the parent function of f(x)= a times b^x Initial value, a: starting value when x=0 Base, b: growth rate; can be a percentage or factor |
Exponential Growth | growth whose rate becomes ever more rapid in proportion to the growing total number or size; occurs when b>1 growth factor, b growth rate, b -1: used with percentages |
Exponential Decay | growth whose rate becomes ever more rapid in proportion to the growing total number or size; occurs when b>1 Decay factor, b Decay factor, 1-b: used with percentages |
Natural Base, e | Euler's number, equivalent to approximately 2.7182818 |
Transformations | the movement or shift in shape of a function |
Domain | the set of all possible input values for the function |
Range | all the output vales of a function |
Interval of Continuity | a function defined at every point on the interval |
Interval of Increasing | as the inputs increase, the outputs increase on the interval |
Interval of Decreasing | as the inputs increase, the outputs decrease on the interval |
Horizontal Asymptote | a horizontal line that a function approaches but never touches; equation, y=____ |
Vertical Asymptote | a vertical line that a function approaches but never touches; equation of x=___ |
End Behavior | the value a function approaches as "x" approaches positive or negative infinity |
Limit Notation | the use of symbols to represent the value a function approaches. |
