order of operations | the hierarchy of mathematical operations used to evaluate a numerical expression |
sum | the answer to an addition problem |

quotient | the answer to a division problem |
evaluate | to find the value of a numerical or algebraic expression |
simplify | to write a numerical or exponential expression as a single value; to write an algebraic expression in fewer terms |
equivalent expressions | two or more expressions that have the same value |
distributive property | a(b + c) = ab + ac OR a(b - c) = ab - ac |
factoring | rewriting an expression as the product of its factors; dividing each term by common factors |
