prime factorization a number written as the product of all its prime factors
least common multiple the least number that is a common multiple of two or more numbers
greatest common factor the greatest factor that two or more numbers have in common
factor a number multiplied by another number to find a product
divisor the number that divides the dividend
dividend the number that is to be divided in a division
common factor a number that is a factor of two or more numbers
reciprocal two numbers are reciprocals of each other if their product equals 1.
mixed number a number that is made up of a whole number and a fraction
fraction a number that names a part of a whole or a part of a group
simplest form a fraction is in a simplest form when the numerator and denominator have only 1 as a common factor
multiplicative inverse a reciprocal of a number that is multiplied by that number resulting in a product of 1
compatible numbers numbers that are easy to compute with mentally
absolute value the distance of an integer from zero on a number line
equivalent fractions fractions that name the same amount or part
line symmetry a figure has line symmetry if it can be folded about a line so that its two parts match exactly.
ordered pair a pair of numbers used to locate a point on a grid
x-axis the horizontal number line on a coordinate plane
rational number any number that can be written as a ratio ab where a and b integer and b =/ 0.
quadrants the four regions of the coordinate plane separated by the x- and y-axes
common denominator a common multiple of two or more denominators
coordinate plane a plane formed by a horizontal line called the x-axis and a vertical line called the y-axis
y-coordinate the second number in an ordered pair; tells the distance to move up or down from [0,0]
line symmetry a line that divides a figure into two halves that are reflection of each other
integers the set of whole numbers and their opposites
negative integer any integer less then zero
opposites two numbers that are the same distance, but in opposite direction, form zero on a number line
origin the point where the two axes of a coordinate plane intersect instersect'[0,0]
positive integer any integer greater than zero
x-coordinate the first number in an ordered pair; tells the distance to move right or left from (0,0)
y-axis the vertical number line on a coordinate plane
