Rules for rounding in Drug Calculations
Question | Answer |
---|---|
More than 1 mL (injections or liquids) | carry to hundredths and round to tenths. Ex 1.17 = 1.2mL |
Less than 1 mL (injections or liquids) | carry to thousandths and round to hundredths. Ex. 0.167 = 0.17mL |
Minims | must be rounded to whole numbers. 16.2m = 16m |
Milligrams | carried to hundredths and rounded to tenths. Ex. 26.76mg = 26.7mg |
Kilograms | carried to hundredths and rounded to tenths. Ex. 150lbs = 68.18kg = 68.2kg |
Pounds | expressed in whole numbers when going from kg to lbs. Ex. 71kg = 156.2lbs = 156 lbs |
Temperature | carried to hundredths and rounded to tenths |
teaspoons, ounces, drams, and tablespoons must be converted to | mL and rounded accordingly |
Insulin | rounded to the nearest whole number. Ex. 3.2 = 3 units, 7.6 units = 8 units. |
