Number Sense Chapter 1-3

WordDefinition
Common Factor A number that is a factor of two or more numbers.
Dividend The number that is to be divided into a division problem.
Divisor The number that divides the dividend.
Factor A number multiplied by another number to find a product.
Greatest Common Factor (GCF) The greatest factor that two or more numbers have in common.
Least Common Multiple (LCM) The least number that is a multiple of two or more numbers.
Prime Factorization A number written as the product of all its prime factors.
Prime Number A number that has exactly two factors: 1 and itself.
Common Denominator A common multiple of two or more denominators.
Compatible Numbers Numbers that are easy to compute with mentally.
Equivalent Fractions Fractions that name the same amount or part.
Fraction A number that names a part of a whole or a part of a group.
Mixed Number A number that is made up of a whole number and a fraction.
Multiplicative Inverse A reciprocal of a number that is multiplied by that number resulting in a product of 1.
Reciprocal Two numbers are reciprocals of each other if their products equal 1.
Simplest Form A fraction is in simplest form when the numerator and denominator have only 1 as a common factor.
Absolute Value The distance of an integer from zero on a number line.
