TermDefinition
Transformation a rule that assigns each point in the plane (or each point in the geometric figure) to another point in the plane. It can be the same point
Pre-image the original geometric image
Horizontal line a line parallel to the x-axis and have equations in the form of y = a constant
Vertical line a line parallel to the y-axis and have equations in the form of x = a constant
Rotation a geometric transformation that involves rotating a figure a certain number of degrees about a fixed point
Reflection a type of transformation that flips a shape in a mirror line (also called a line of reflection) so that each point is the same distance from the mirror line as its reflected point
Translation the shifting of a figure from one place to another without rotating, reflecting or changing its size
Rigid Motion a transformation that moves a shape from one location to another without changing its size or shape, essentially meaning the object is "slide," "flipped," or "rotated" but remains congruent to its original form
Triangle a three sided figure who's interior angles add up to 180 degrees
