What is the main difference between the 2 types of democracies? the relationship between the legislative and executive branches 1 - the executive is independent from the legislative branches in a presidential democracy 2 - All three branches of government in a parliamentary democracy answer to the legislature
In what form of democracy are all 3 branches of government are independent of each other and have separate powers? Presidential democracy
What is checks and balances? where each branch of government has some limited power over the other branches used in presidential democracy
Who do the people elect in a presidential democracy? The citizens elect both the nation's legislators and its chief executive Judges of the judicial branch are appointed by the president and then confirmed by the Congress.
What is the most common form of democracy in the world? Parliamentary democracy
Do the citizens vote for the head of government in a parliamentary democracy? No - They vote to elect members of the nation's legislature or parliament. Once parliament is in session, the legislature then elects a prime minister to lead.
How long do prime ministers stay in power? as long as the legislature supports them
How long do members of a presidential democracy stay in power? a certain number of years, and then citizens can vote to re-elect or choose someone else
Who selects the cabinet and judges in a parliamentary democracy? The prime minister is responsible for selecting other parliament members to become part of the cabinet and also appoint judges to the judicial branch.
Why is a democracy described as "rule of all"? it signifies that the power lies in the hands of the people
How is presidential and parliamentary both forms of a democracy? they both rely on the principle of citizens electing representatives to make decisions on their behalf, upholding core democratic values like individual rights, free and fair elections, and the rule of law
What is the purpose in having the legislature vote for the head of government instead of the citizens directly, in a parliamentary democracy? it ensures that the executive branch (Prime Minister) is directly accountable to the legislative branch
