American Revolution

Why was the French and Indian war fought? fought for land in the Ohio valley, the British won.
Why did the Proclamation of 1763 happen? didn't allow colonists to move onto land past Appalachian mountains
Why did the Writs of Assistance happen? British could have blank search warrants to search the colonists homes, colonists retaliated by boycotting British imports
Why did the Sugar Act happen? put a foreign tax on molasses and sugar, British did this because of financial problems, colonists refused to pay the taxes
Why did the Committees of Correspondences happen? an organization used in earlier protests to communicate, colonists did this.
Why did the Quartering Act happen? Passed in 1765, required colonists to pay for housing and feed the British soldiers, colonists had to pay for common things at higher prices
Why did the Stamp Act happen? passed in 1765, taxes on specific items like newspapers causing the colonists to lose money, British got more money.
What was the Stamp Act Congress? Happened in October 1765, delegates from 9 colonies met in New York City , colonists wrote up written protest, British agreed
What was the Declaratory Act? Stated that parliament had the right to rule and tax the colonies, British again got a lot more money, colonists lost money and were warned from any future protests
What was the Townshed Act? placed taxes on important used items, British again got more money, colonists had to pay taxes
What was the Boston Massacre? It started because people were insulting a British guard and throwing snowballs at him, British got angry, colonists got shot at and 5 people died and 6 injured.
What was the Tea Act? 1773 to rescue the British east India company the British made this act
What was the Boston Tea Party Fall of 1773, colonists got mad so they chucked 500,000 pounds of tea into the ocean to protest, British upset that the tea was gone.
What was the Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)? This act closed the port until payment was made for tea, banned town meetings, British could now house troops in any home of Massachusetts.
What was "No Taxation without Representation?" A colonial idea that the British couldn't tax the colonists without someone being in Parliament, British could no longer get money from the colonists.
What were the Sons and Daughters of Liberty? American colonists who supported the patriot cause and they helped with the Boston Tea Party, British got angry again, colonists protested against the British rules and intimidated them.
