Acoustics: | the properties of a room or material that determine how sound is transmitted. |
Maintenance: | taking care of something to keep it in its original form. |
Masonry: | stonework or brickwork |
Material board: | a sample board created by a designer with swatches of interior materials and photographs of furniture proposed for a client’s space. |
Mosaic: | : a picture or pattern created by arranging together small pieces of tile, glass or stone. |
Off-gasing: | fumes produced by chemicals in materials used in interiors |
Patina: | a surface appearance that grows beautiful with age. |
Pile: | the yarns standing up from the surface of a carpet, can be looped or cut. |
Plaster: | combination of lime, sand, and water for spreading on walls, ceilings or other structures to form a smooth hard surface when dried. |
Upholstery: | oft, padded fabric or leather covering attached to furniture such as armchairs or sofas. |
Veneer: | a thin ornamental facing, usually of an expensive material, which covers the visible surface of a less expensive backing material. |
VOCs: | (volatile organic compounds) chemicals that easily enter the air in the form of gases emitted from some solids or liquids and which may have short-term or long-term adverse health effects. |
