deforestation the removal of trees from an area
desertification The process of turning land with healthy soil into land with little soil that lacks nutrients
efficiency a way to make technology work better, with less waste of materials and time
acid rain chemical pollution in the air mixed with falling water
ozone odorless, colorless gas made up of three oxygen atoms; natural ozone in the Earth’s upper atmosphere protects Earth; found in the lower atmosphere it is a result of pollution
