QuestionAnswer
Township and range A rectangular land division scheme designed by Thomas Jefferson to disperse settlers evenly across farmlands of the U.S. interior.
Linear Villages Village that follows major roads, often one single thoroughfare lined with houses, businesses, and public buildings.
Dispersed Settlement Individual farmhouses lying quite far apart.
Long-Lot System Divides land into narrow parcels that extend from rivers, roads, or canals.
Cluster Villages A villages that may have more than one major road that they build along, and they also may have housing that clusters around large public buildings.
Metes and bounds This system uses physical features of local geography along with directions and distances to define and describe boundaries of land parcels.
Organic Farming The use of natural substances rather than chemical fertilizers and pesticides to enrich the soil and grow crops.
Sustainability The use of the Earth's renewable and nonrenewable natural resources in ways that ensure resource availability in the future
Food Insecurity When the cost of food is too high in certain regions, or a family is struggling to make ends meet
Fair trade A concept used in developing countries to help create sustainability.
Urban Farming Refers to the production of farm goods within an urban area with the goal of providing locally grown food.
