What does Conscription mean? The drafting of citizens to serve in the armed forces for a set number of years.
Whats arms race? A competition among nations to have the most weapons.
What 3 countries were part of the Triple Entente? France, Russia, and Britain.
What 3 countries were part of the Triple Alliance? Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary.
What was the start of WW1? The assassination of Austro-Hungarian Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife by a Serbian Nationalist in Sarajevo.
When did WW1 start? (date)? June 28, 1914
Who did Austria-Hungary declared war on? Serbia
Who did Germany declare war on and why? Russia, for aiding Serbia
Who did France and Britain declare war on? Germany
Who did Japan declare war on? Germany
What is "No Man's Land"? The area between trenches/enemy lines filled with barbed wire and mines .
What does "Over The Top" mean? The dreaded command for soldiers to leave their trenches and charge the enemy’s trench.
What were some terrible conditions of Trench Warfare? Muddy, rats, lice, mice, with diseases such as cholera & trench foot.

What did the Treaty of Versaille do? It forced Germany to accept sole responsibility for starting War.
What 4 empires came to a end? German Austro-Hungarian Ottoman Russian
What was President Woodrow Wilson's proposal for peace called? 14 points
League of Nations League of Nations was established to keep the peace and prevent future wars - (US did not join)
What new countries were formed? Poland, Yugoslavia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Austria, Hungary, and Turkey.

What were most countries financial situations after the war? Bad, most countries were in dept.
