Terminology PT 101

QuestionAnswer
Buccal Tablet A tablet that is dissolved in the lining of the cheek instead of being swallowed whole.
Enema Process by which a medicated fluid is injected into the rectum, or an aqueous solutions administered rectally to empty the bowel, to treat infections and diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract.
Sublingual Tablet A tablet that is dissolved under the toungue instead of being swallowed whole.
Inhalation The administration of a medication directly into the lungs by the mouth or nose.
Transdermal Aministration of a medication through the skin
Vaginally Administration of a solid or liquid medication through the vagina
Intradermal The Administration of a medication by injection into the skin
Intramuscular The administration of a medication within or into a muscle.
Intranasal Medications administered through being inhaled through the nose and being absorbed into the bloodstream
Topical A substance used externally for relief of swelling, itching, or infections.
Intravenous The administration of a medication within or onto the veins.
Opthalmic The administration of medication through the eye
