Landmark courtcases for Law Enforcement One

Silverthorne Lumber Co. v U.S. . Articulated a new principle of due process known as the fruit of the poisonous tree doctrine.
Smith v Ohio The court held in this case that an individual has the right to protect his or her belongings from unwarranted police inspection.
Terry v Ohio This case set the standard for a brief stop and frisk based on reasonable suspicion.
Miranda v Arizona This case established the advisement of rights given to criminal suspects before questioning begins.
Mapp v Ohio This made the exclusionary rule applicable to criminal prosecutions at the state level.
Escobedo v Illinois In this case the Supreme Court recognized the right to have legal counsel present during police interrogation.
Carroll v U.S. This was the first significant Supreme Court case involving an automobile.
Brown v Mississippi This case ruled that the police cannot use force during the interrogation of a suspect.
Florida v Bostick This case permitted warrantless searches of intercity buses.
Weeks v U.S. This case formed the basis of what is now called the exclusionary rule.
