Bronchodilator relaxes the smooth muscle of the bronchi treatment of asthma, bronchospasm, promotes bronchodialation
Diuretic inhibits the re-absorption of sodium and chloride in kidneys, promotes excretion of excess fluid in the body increases urinary output, decreases blood pressure
Oral hypoglycemic decreases blood glucose levels by increasing insulin production and/or decreasing target cell resistance to insulin or by delaying glucose absorption management of Type II diabetes
Antipyretic reduces body temperature reduces fever
Lipid lowering agent decreases blood cholesterol levels and/or increases HDL levels management of high blood cholesterol
Analgesic lessens the sensory function of the brain; blocks pain receptors pain relief
Antiemetic acts on the hypothalamus center in the brain prevents and relieve nausea and vomiting
Hormone Replacement replaces hormones or compensates for hormone deficiency maintenance of an adequate hormone level
Antineoplastic inhibits the development of and destroys cancer cells cancer chemotherapy
Hypnotic induces sleep and lessens the activity of the brain insomnia, lower doses sedate
Antacid decrease the acidity in the stomach treatment of gastric hyperacidity
Antihistamine counteracts the effects of histamine by blocking action in tissues; may be used to inhibit gastric secretions relief of allergies; prevention of gastric ulcers
Anticoagulant delays or blocks the clotting of blood treatment of blood clots, thrombophlebitic prevention of clot formation
Antipruritic relieves itching treatment of allergies or topical exponent cause itching
