HTML | Stands for "Hyper-Text Markup Language" This is the language that webpages are written in |
HTTP | Stands for "HyperText Transfer Protocol." how data is transferred over the World Wide Web |
HTTPS | Stands for "HyperText Transport Protocol Secure." HTTPS is the same thing as HTTP, but uses a secure socket layer (SSL) for security purposes. Used on most websites that require you to log in. |
Website | a collection of Web pages |
Serial Port | is a type of connection on PCs that is used for peripherals such as mice, gaming controllers, modems, and older printers. can only transmit one bit of data at a time |
Parallel Port | is sometimes called a Centronics interface. t is sometimes also referred to as a printer port because the printer is the device most commonly attached to the port. |
USB Port | Stands for "Universal Serial Bus." It is the most common type of computer port used in today's computers. |
Webmaster | is the person in charge of maintaining a Web site. The jobs of a webmaster include writing HTML for Web pages, organizing the Web site's structure, responding to e-mails about the Web site, and keeping the site up-to-date |
Domain Name | is the name that identifies an Web site. For example, "Microsoft.com" is the domain name of Microsoft's Web site |
Domain Suffix | is the last part of a domain name and is often referred to as a "top-level domain" or TLD. Popular domain suffixes include ".com," ".net," and ".org," but there are dozens of domain suffixes approved by ICANN. |
Encryption | is the coding or scrambling of information so that it can only be decoded and read by someone who has the correct decoding key. It's used in secure Web sites as well as other mediums of data transfer |
Login/on | If you are ever asked to enter your username and password, you are being asked to enter your login information. A login is a combination of information that authenticates your identity. This could be a name and password or an ID number and security code |
Cookie | is a small amount of data generated by a website and saved by your web browser. Its purpose is to remember information about you, similar to a preference file created by a software application. |
Screen Shot | or screen capture, is a picture taken of your computer's desktop. This may include the desktop background, icons of files and folders, and open windows. It may also include whatever is being displayed by currently running programs |
Upload | is sending a file from your computer to another system |
Download | is the process in which data is sent to your computer. Whenever you receive information from the Internet, you are downloading it to your computer |
Auto Fill Cursor | You can use this cursor to repeat things or fill in a series (such as dates) by simply clicking and dragging |
Select Mode Cursor | you can select things with this cursor |
Click and Drag Cursor | you can click and drag things with this cursor |
Resizing Cursor | this cursor is used to change the size of your rows or columns |
Log Off | Disconnects you from the computer/server/site so your information is not still there |
