What is the Equator and where is it located | An imaginary line that circles Earth halfway between the North Pole and South Pole. The equator is located at 0 degrees latitude. |
What is the Prime Meridian and where is it located | An imaginary line that cuts Earth in half from the North Pole to the South Pole. The prime meridian is located at 0 degrees longitude. |
Parallels of Latitude | The lines that circle Earth from west to east. The distance between parallel lines is always equal. The starting point for measuring parallels of latitude is the equator. |
Maridians of Longitude | The lines that run from the North Pole to the South Pole. These lines are half-circles and are not parallels becasue they are not always the same distance apart. The starting point for measuring longitude is the prime meridian. |
Hemispheres | Half spheres that divide Earth. The prime meridian divides Earth into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. The equator divides Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. |
