analgesic a drug that relieves pain by reducing the perception of pain
anaphylactic shock a severe allergic reaction that causes blood pressure to decrease rapidly, the heart to go into ventricular tachycardia, and tha airways to close; a medical emergency that will cause death if not treated immediately
antigen the marker on cell surfaces that marks the cell as a "self-cell"; it stimulates the production of antibodies
antipyretic medication that reduces fever
bradykinins chemicals produced by the body and responsible for inflammation and pain
corticosteroid a steroid produced by the adrenal cortex
debride to remove dead or damaged tissue
histamine a substance that interacts with tissues, producing an allergic reaction
NSAIDS nonsterodial antiinflammatory drugs
osteoarthritis also known as degenerative and crippling immune disease
rhinitis inflammation of the lining of the nose, runny nose
steroid messenger chemical produced by the body that helps fight inflammation and pain
systemic pertaining to the entire body rather than to individual body parts
urticaria a skin eruption of itching wheals
vasolidation widening of the blood vessels that allows for increased blood flow
