BACS Glossary

This is a revision glossary for Business and Communication Systems

QuestionAnswer
Agenda Document that sets out what will be discussed at the meeting.
BACS A system where money is directly transferred from on ebank account to another.
Cash flow The money that flows in and out of a business.
Chain of command The path decisions and communications have to go through in a business hierarchy.
Contract of employment A legal agreement between the employer and the employee about the terms and conditions of a job.
Corporate image The public reputation of a business.
Data encryption Security software that scrambles data being sent over the internet into an unreadable code to protect it from hackers.
E-Commerce Business transactions that take place on the internet.
Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) A system that links businesses directly to their bank account(s).
EFTPOS (Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale) Paying using a debit or credit card instead of cash.
EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) Laser scanners used to scan bar codes at shop checkouts.
Ergonomics A way of designing office equipment and furniture so it's comfortable to use.
File extension The last three letters of a file name used to identify the file type.
