Plot

7th grade Plot Vocab from Holt Literature and Language Arts

QuestionAnswer
Plot a series of events; what happens in a story
Four parts of plot basic situation, series of events, climax, resolution
basic situation who are the characters and what do they want
Conflict the problem or struggle
external conflict a character struggles against another person, group, or force of nature (like a bear or a tornado)
internal conflict character's struggle takes place in his or her mind
foreshadow clues or hints about future events in the plot
series of events what takes place in the story as the character attempts to solve the conflict
complications difficulties the character faces that make it hard for the character to get what he or she wants
climax the story's most emotional or suspenseful moment
resolution the last part of the story, all the loose ends of the plot are tied up and the story is closed
