budding, binary fission, vegetative reproduction, mitosis
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Cell Cycle | A repeating sequence of cellular growth and division during the life of an organism. |
Interphase | Where the cell spends 90% of its time. It will only leave this phase when it is about to divide. |
Mitosis | The process during cell division in which the nucleus of a cell is divided into two nuclei. |
Cytokinesis | The process during cell division in which the cytoplasm divides. |
Cancer | The uncontrolled growth of cells. It is essentially a disorder of cell division. |
Spindle | Cell structure that make up the centrioles and individual microtubule fibers that are involved in moving chromosomes during cell division. |
Prophase | The first stage of mitosis where the chromosomes first become visible. |
Metaphase | The second stage of mitosis where the chromosomes line up along the middle. |
Anaphase | The third stage of mitosis where the chromosomes become separated. |
Telophase | Stage where the chromosomes are at opposite sides of the cell and begin to re-coil. |
Asexual Reproduction | Reproduction that involves only one parent and results in genetically identical offspring. |
Binary Fission | Form of asexual reproduction that produces identical offspring. |
