athero sclerosis- accumulating lipoproteins & fats on the arteries inner surface causing MI, stroke, or gangrene
auto immune disease- illness with immune system attacking/distroying healthy body tissue
bradycardia- really slow heart rate (60>bpm)
carticosteroids- steroid hormone produced by the adrenal cortex
circardian- regularly recurring on a 24 hr. cycle
DAW- rx instruction demanding no generics
depolarization- removing negative voltage across te heart's/nerve's cell membrane from inflowing positive ions
Hb- hemoglobin
HbA1C (glycostated hemoglobin)- average level of sugar in blood at time period
hiatal hernia- protusion in esophageal hiatus of the diaphragm
hyperglycemia- above average blood sugar
priapism- abnormal erection with pain, frequency, & duration
progesterone- hormone that preps uterus for getting & maturing an ovum
repolarization- restoring negative voltage across the heart/nerve cell membrane, from positive ions flowing out
sino atrial (SA) node- the heart's normal pacemaker area
stimulant laxative- laxatives that irritate the gut's mucosa to activate it
surfactant laxative- a detergent like stool softener that facilitates mixing water & fat to liquify the stool
thrombus- blood clot
tophus- sodium urate deposites surrounding a joint
triglycerides- a neutral fat stored in animal adipose tissue that releases free fatty acids in the blood
benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) - abnormal enlargement of the prostate gland, usually associated with aging
