nitroglycerine (Nitrostat) | Use manufacturer specified tubing. Common S/E is headache. Contraindicated in use with Viagra = severe hypotension |
procainamide (Pronestryl) | S/E: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, heart failure. Do baseline assessment for these before admin. Adverse effects are severe hypotension and cardiac arrest. |
lidocaine (Xylocaine) | Used to treat ventricular dysrhythmias like PVC. S/E: Heart block so monitor ECG changes. Neurological changes indicate toxicity. Given IV push 1-1.5 mg/kg at 50 mg/min, then follow with bolus of 1-4 mg/min via infusion pump |
digoxin (Lanoxin) | Dose 0.125mg. Anorexia, nausea, and green-yellow vision are signs of toxicity. Chance of toxicity is increased with hypokalemia |
aluminum hydroxide gel | Interferes with the absorption of other drugs so wait one hour to take after taking other meds |
sodium nitroprusside (Nipride) | Vasodilator that reduces preload and afterload. Must be administered via infusion pump and protected from light with aluminum wrap |
nitroglycerin paste (Nitro-Dur) | Prevents angina |
quinidine gluconate (Quinidex) | Don't double dose |
disopyromide (Norpace) | Adverse effect is urinary retention |
