QuestionAnswer
Interferons Tx of Leukemias, Kaposi Sarcoma, Warts, Hep B and Malignant Melanoma. Naturally released from human cells in response to a viral invasion. Enhance inflammatory response.
Interleukins Tx of renal carcinomas, AIDS, ARC. Chemicals produced by T-cells and used to communicate between lymphocytes, stimulate cellular immunity, and inhibit tumor growth.
Immune Suppressants Used with corticosteroids. Block inflammatory response. Tx of organ transplant and in tx of autoimmune diseases (RA, Psoriasis)
Immune Stimulants-Prototype Interferon Alfa-2b
Interferon Alfa-2b Used for hairy cell leukemia, malignant melanoma, AIDS, Chronic Hep B&C. Inhibits growth of tumor cells and enhances immune response. Adverse: Flu-like symptoms.
Interleukins-Prototype Aldesleukin (Proleukin)
Aldesleukin (Proleukin) Produced by E.Coli. Tx of metastatic renal cell carcinoma in adults, metastatic melanomas, AIDS and ARC. Activates human cellularimmunity and inhibits tumore growth. Adverse: Flu-like symptoms, CNS.
T-and B-Cell Suppressors-Prototype Cyclosporine (Sandimmune)
Cyclosporine (Sandimmune) Suppression of rejection in variety of transplants, Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis.
Monoclonal Antibodies-Prototype Muromonab (Orthoclone OKT3)
Muromonab (Orthoclone OKT3) IV onset in mins, peak 2-7 days. Lasts 7 days. Used for tx of renal, cardiac and hepatic transplant pts. Adverse: Flu-like symptoms, acute pulmonary edema, increase susceptibility to infection.
